Introduction

SPACEWAYS TO EARTHLY MATTER

Humankind has always been intrigued by other life forms. In an attempt to establish communication and introduce human civilization to non-earthly intelligent life, projects like the Voyager Golden Record were sent to outer space. SPACEWAYS TO EARTHLY MATTER delves into the human ambition to convey humanity to alien life. What would we like to disclose if we encounter an alien? From technological marvels like the internet to tarnished chapters of colonialism, genocide and war, what motivates and defines humankind?

SPACEWAYS TO EARTHLY MATTER echoes the human relation to material and our exploitation of resources. It focuses on the current interest in space exploration by private companies and the past maritime expeditions signaling their common interest and behaviour in making a profit on resources.

The artwork is reminiscent of relics from an alien civilization that assembled human-made objects and materials like sugar and coffee, an endeavour to trace humanity.
